Skill Development Training

The Round Rock Multipurpose Complex offers Skill Development Programs year-round to refine your athlete’s skill level, create an environment to cross-train in the off-season, and add additional opportunities to train in their sport of choice. See below for more information on programs currently offered, or contact us at mpc@roundrocktexas.gov or 512.341.3125.

**In the event of inclement weather, please plan to arrive to training on time unless you hear otherwise from our staff. We do our best not to cancel sessions because we understand parents plan weekly schedules based on their athlete attending training. If needed, we can always move training into our multipurpose rooms at the facility and adapt our curriculum.


Meet Our Coach: TJ Anders

SPECIALTY: Sports Performance

Coach TJ Anders joined the RRMPC in Dec. 2018.  Before joining the team, this former college football player established partnerships with various organizations to provide superior training to athletes. Coach TJ discovered his passion for encouraging athletes to be better and do better while he was chasing dreams of his own. It was during his pursuit of Arena football and  time as an Indoor football player, that fate catapulted him into his calling as a Sports Performance Coach. Coach TJ has successfully created and implemented unique training methods that are adaptable to the needs of each athlete.  From skill training and plyometrics to enhancing flexibility and explosiveness, Coach TJ’s experience has afforded him the opportunity to help each athlete reach their full potential in and out of competition.

meet our Coach: Kwame Cavil

SPECIALTY:  STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

We are thrilled to announce Kwame Cavil as our head Coach for strength and conditioning classes at the Round Rock Sports Center. Coach Cavil played D1 collegiate football at the University of Texas at Austin and was awarded Outstanding Wide Receiver, MVP-Offense, First Team All-Conference, and more during his career. He then went on to play in the NFL, NFLEU and CFL. Most recently, Coach Cavil has discovered his passion for training and mentoring young athletes through his coaching career in high school level athletics and current personal training business. His goal is to equip youth with the knowledge needed to build a strong foundation for an ultimately successful athlete! Coach Cavil is excited to join the RRSC team and looks forward to training with all of you!

 


  • Football Skills Training - Winter (Jan 7 - Feb 25)

    Fridays; January 7 – February 25, 5:30-7pm   *no class January 28*

    Age range: 8 to 14 younger and older players may be eligible to participate depending on their skill level.

    Cost: $179

    This program is for players that are new to the sport, players that have played on a team or are playing but want more training to develop their skills. Because this is a non-contact football skills training program all skill levels train well together.

    Athletes that enter this program should sign up if they are preparing to play football in either youth flag football, extreme flag football, youth tackle football or they are prepping to get ready for middle school or high school football.

    The purpose for football skills training is to help younger athletes develop in every area of football except for full contact blocking and tackling. Skills the incoming players can expect to develop during the program are:

    • Functional strength and mobility
    • Throwing and catching development (Every player catches a minimum of 50 balls per session)
    • The proper stances for offensive and defensive players
    • Overall footwork development for every position
    • Intro to route running. Players learn and improve their route running skills.
    • Intro to man coverage. Players learn the fundamentals for off and press coverage.
    • 1 v 1’s – Players use what they have learned and compete in route running and coverage against one another. This part of the program is important because it gives coach(s) the opportunity to help players understand and adjust route running and coverage skills without the pressure of winning or losing a game. Players are matched up by skill level.
    • Every session is completed with Football Yoga. Designed to strengthen and lengthen the muscles of players for the purpose of increasing physical performance, injury prevention, and increasing mobility.
  • Speed and Agility - Winter (Jan 7 - Feb 25)

    Ages 8-14

    Cost: $109

    Coach: Kwame Cavil

    The focus of this training program is listed as follows:

    • Running mechanics
    • Improve speed and speed endurance
    • Increase balance and stability
    • Improve mobility
    • Increase power and acceleration

    This program is available to athletes ages 8-14, across all sports, that have the urge to enhance their overall speed. This program will focus on first step movements, running mechanics and form technique to support each athlete in developing more overall speed and applying that speed to their respective sport. Classes will be held outside, proper attire for the elements is highly recommended. If the class should be canceled for inclement weather, you will be informed of the cancellation and a make-up class will be scheduled.

    Our Football Skills Training program is meant for beginner athletes ages 8-12 that are interested in learning and improving in the game of football in a non-contact form. This program will build the foundation for each athlete’s individual skillset through drills focusing on agility, balance, coordination, footwork, offensive and defensive skill training and more. Athletes will also learn the value of communication and teamwork on the field in small sided scrimmages throughout the program.
