21st Annual Bloodfest 7s Rugby Tournament

The Austin Huns Rugby Football Club 21st Annual Bloodfest 7s Tournament—the largest rugby tournament in Texas and the greater southwestern U.S.–will be held Saturday, June 23, 2018, at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex. The 60-acre sports venue, located at 2001 N. Kenney Fort Blvd. in Round Rock, features a championship field with natural grass and another championship field with synthetic turf, four multipurpose fields with natural grass and four with synthetic turf, shaded seating, a clubhouse and lighting on all 10 fields.

The Bloodfest Sevens tournament serves as the primary annual fundraiser for the Austin Huns Rugby Football Club. This regional rugby tournament is also intended to bring awareness to the community about the need to donate blood. Austin Huns Rugby partnered with the local blood bank, We Are Blood. In advance of the tournament, the Huns will also host a blood drive in May and welcome all those wishing to donate to the karma bank.

“Our values as a club are community, culture and rugby. Many memories and friends are made among competing players and teams in the region,” said Ryan Walker, Bloodfest Sevens Tournament Chairman and Treasurer of the Austin Huns Rugby Football Club. “We strive to host a fantastic tournament each and every year, but with this year being the 21st anniversary of the Bloodfest Sevens Tournament, there is a renewed focus on supporting our local, non-rugby community. This will be the first time We Are Blood will have the new Bloodstream Mobile Unit onsite at the event, providing information on the need for blood donors. We want members of the community to come out and learn about how and why to donate blood, and then watch some action-packed Premier Rugby Sevens matches—rugby that is designed to dazzle.”

“We look forward to welcoming the players, rugby fans and blood donors from all over Central Texas to the 21st Annual Bloodfest Sevens Tournament here at our brand new Round Rock Multipurpose Complex. What an honor to support the community by educating people about blood donation while also supporting the great sport of rugby!” Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Nancy Yawn said. “We hope players and spectators alike enjoy the rugby games and visiting all the great restaurants, shopping and entertainment Round Rock has to offer.”

Admission to the Bloodfest Sevens Tournament is free for any spectators; however, any teams wishing to participate must register beforehand at Bloodfest7s.com. Tournament registration is underway and the Bloodfest Sevens Tournament is poised to host more than 80 teams in nine brackets—including the reintroduction of Men’s and Women’s Super Social division, and the first ever Bloodfest High School Girls bracket. Teams are encouraged to register soon, as brackets are filling up.

Tournament sponsors and partners include:  We Are Blood, Austin Beerworks, GET Sports and the City of Round Rock. Additional sponsorship and advertising opportunities are still available. For more information, contact the tournament organizers at bloodfest@hunsrugby.com.
