Round Rock’s Sports Scene Is growing
Round Rock has built a reputation as a premier destination for athletes, teams, tournaments, and sports fans, and that reputation is about to get even bigger. With major improvements underway at the Multipurpose Complex (MPC) and a newly renovated Round Rock Sports Center, the city is expanding its ability to host high-level competition and large-scale sporting events of all kinds.
The expanded facilities are designed with the entire sports experience in mind. From championship fields and spectator seating to new event spaces, athletic training facilities, parking, playgrounds, and more, the improvements will create a destination where athletes, coaches, officials, families, and fans can spend more time playing, competing, and enjoying their time on and off the field.

The expanded MPC will span 100 total acres and feature 16 fields, including three championship fields built to accommodate major competitions. With a mix of natural grass and synthetic fields, the expanded complex will be ready for all kinds of sports and events, from everyday practices and games to large-scale tournaments that bring teams and fans from across the country.
Here’s what athletes, teams, and fans can expect:
- 16 total fields across the expanded complex
- Musco lighting on all 16 fields
- 10 synthetic turf fields, all FieldTurf brand and FIFA certified
- 6 natural grass fields, including:
- 4 Tifway 419 Bermuda grass fields in the grass quad
- 2 TifTuf Bermuda grass championship fields
- 3 championship fields equipped with scoreboards and PA systems
- 1 new championship natural grass field
- 1 renovated and enhanced championship natural grass field
- 1 upgraded and enhanced championship synthetic turf field
- Seating for up to 3,000 spectators at the championship fields

Built for the Full Event Experience
Looking for snacks to keep you fueled the whole tournament? The expansion includes new and upgraded concession facilities throughout the MPC, so you can stay healthy and hydrated to perform your best. For visitors arriving by car, the expansion adds 570 additional parking spaces bringing the total amount of available space to 1,521 spots, averaging approximately 95 spaces per field. You won’t have to worry about finding your car after late games, because the MPC is adding lighting to all new and existing parking areas. And when it’s time for a break from the competition, visitors and fans will have access to a festival area and playgrounds, adding spaces for families and community to relax and play beyond the fields.

The MPC isn’t the only facility getting an upgrade! The Round Rock Sports Center recently completed it’s own expansion creating even more opportunities to play, compete, support, and experience sports. The $17.5 million expansion added 25,000 square feet to the facility, including two new full-sized basketball courts that can also accommodate four additional volleyball courts. The project also added championship court seating, a secondary entrance, and additional parking to better support larger tournaments and events.
Since opening in 2014, the Round Rock Sports Center has become a destination for local, regional, and national sporting events. The facility welcomes thousands of athletes and spectators each year for tournaments, leagues, and club sports, while also contributing to Round Rock’s growing sports tourism industry.
The expansion provides additional space and flexibility for tournaments, competitions, and athletic programs, giving teams and event organizers more opportunities to host large-scale events in Round Rock. Along with championship courts, spectator seating, event space, and additional amenities, the expanded facility strengthens the city’s ability to welcome athletes, families, teams, and visitors from across the region.
