Know Before You Go- Summer Camp Tips

How to Set Your Camper Up for a Successful Summer

Is your child signed up for a Round Rock Sports Summer Camp this year? If so, we are so excited to welcome them! Whether it’s their first time joining us or they’re a returning camper, a little preparation can go a long way in making sure they have the best experience possible. Here are a few important tips to help your camper start the summer off right.

Hydration and Heat Safety

Beat the Heat in Round Rock

Texas summers are no joke—and we know parents are just as mindful about the heat as we are. That’s why heat safety and hydration are top priorities at all of our summer camps, whether your child is attending at the Round Rock Sports Center or the Multipurpose Complex.

Athletes perform at their best when they’re well-fueled, and that starts with proper hydration from the start of the day. Here’s how you can help set your camper up for success:

  1. Send a sturdy, labeled water bottle. This could be a large plastic jug or an insulated metal bottle, as long is it will hold enough water to keep them going through active play.
  1. Remind them to drink regularly. Hydration isn’t just about drinking when thirsty, so please encourage your camper to take sips throughout the day.
  1. Dress for the weather. Pack lightweight, breathable clothing along with sunscreen and a hat for outdoor camps.

Packing for Camp

What’s in Your Camper’s Bag?

Wondering what to pack for your child’s first day of camp? Here’s a quick guide to make mornings easier and ensure your camper is well prepared:

  1. Backpacks & Bags: We encourage your camper to bring a backpack or bag to carry their items in. Each camp location has a designated area for storing belongings safely.
  1. Limit Phone Use. While we understand phones are often a lifeline between parents and kids, we kindly ask that campers keep them in their bags during camp hours. This helps everyone stay focused, engaged, and present.
  1. Medications & Allergies. If your child has any medical needs, please let our staff know in advance. You’re welcome to speak with a coach or counselor at drop-off, or email us ahead of time so we can make note of any necessary instructions.
  1. Snack Smart. Every camp includes a break for water and snacks. Please send a nutritious snack or lunch with your camper. Popular choices include fruit, cheese sticks, crackers, pretzels, applesauce pouches, and protein bars.
  1. Lost & Found. Misplaced a water bottle or hoodie? Don’t worry! Check the Lost & Found at the Sports Center or Multipurpose Complex. You’re welcome to call or stop by the front desk to see if your item has been turned in.

We’re looking forward to a fun, active, and safe summer with your athlete! With a little preparation, your camper will be ready to jump in, stay energized, and enjoy every moment. See you soon!
